EU Wine E-Label Regulation: Complete Guide

Since December 8, 2024, all wines marketed in the European Union must provide nutritional information and ingredient lists. This can be done via electronic labels (e-labels) accessed through QR codes.

What's Required?

On the Physical Label (mandatory)

• Product name and vintage
• Alcohol by volume (ABV)
• Country of origin
• Allergen warnings (sulfites)
• QR code or URL to digital information

Via E-Label (can be digital)

• Full nutritional declaration per 100ml
• Complete list of ingredients
• All allergens highlighted
• Available in consumer's language

Nutritional Information Required

Per 100ml, you must declare:

• Energy (kJ and kcal)
• Fat (g)
• Saturated fat (g)
• Carbohydrates (g)
• Sugars (g)
• Protein (g)
• Salt (g)

Ingredients List

All ingredients must be listed, including:

• Grapes (variety optional)
• Yeasts
• Fining agents
• Stabilizers
• Acidity regulators
• Sweeteners (if used)
• Allergens highlighted (sulfites, egg, milk derivatives)

Language Requirements

E-label information must be available in:

• The official language(s) of the country where sold
• Multiple languages recommended for export markets
• Language selection option preferred

Who Must Comply?

• Wineries
• Wine importers
• Wine distributors
• Retailers selling wine

Exemptions

• Wines bottled before December 8, 2023 can be sold until stock depletes
• Wines for export outside EU (may still need compliance for re-import)
